The American Advertising Awards (ADDY) is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting over 35,000 entries every year in local competitions. The mission of the competition is to recognize and reward creative excellence in the art of advertising.

Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the Hermes/ADDY® Awards is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie for recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local winners compete against other winners in one of 14 District competitions. District winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national ADDY® Awards competition.

Entry in the HERMES/ADDY competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY®.

  • Entries will be acccepted on Friday, January 10th from 5-8pm at Brixx.  Following that, the entry fee will increase by $30 per entry, late entries will be accepted on Tuesday, January 14th from noon-1 at Yeck Brothers Company.



New for this year in the rules/categories (in red in the documents above) in Professional (student follows these):

  • Trophies and certificates are created based on information submitted at time of entry. Please make sure all fields are accurate.

  • There has been a major change to the public service categories which had previously been included in all categories.  Now, there is a set category for Public Service which encompasses Corporate Social Responsibility and Pro Bono. The definitions for these are:

  • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) - Corporate Social Responsibility advertising has a goal for raising the public’s awareness of social, ethical and/or environmental issues leading to a positively enhanced corporate image. Corporate Social Responsibility advertising should have a combination of both social marketing with the intent to persuade consumers to adopt behaviors advocated by social, ethical, or environmental cause and corporate image advertising.All Corporate Social Responsibility advertising must be entered in these categories and does not qualify in any other. Individual elements of Corporate Social Responsibility advertising may be entered into the Elements of Advertising categories for judging, but note there is no specific Corporate Social Responsibility category.

  • Pro Bono - Pro bono advertising has as its goal the improvement of the public’s health, education and/or welfare. Advertising work done for non-profit social organizations or causes, charities or NGOs designated as a non-profit and exempt from Federal Income Tax under section 501(c)(3) or similar section of the United States Internal Revenue Code should be entered in a Pro Bono category. All Pro Bono advertising must be entered in these categories and does not qualify in any other. Individual elements of Pro Bono advertising may be entered into the Elements of Advertising categories for judging, but note there is no specific Pro Bono category. Please Note: Pro Bono entries and Pro Bono Elements of Advertising entries are not eligible for Best of Show consideration.

  • Please read through those categories (88-109) to see the additional detailed overall instructions, as well as the information for each category section to see what work qualifies.

  • Besides the addition of the stand alone Public Service category, in Cross Platform, Corporate Social Responsibility and Pro Bono categroes have been added.

  • In the Student Digital Creative Technology category, an addition has been made (in bold) - This category recognizes achievement in the creative use of tools, features, technology and overall design of websites, games and apps in the areas of user navigation, responsive design, location technology, augmented reality, mobile interaction and user experience.
