The Road to Success is Rarely a Straight Line

A career in graphic design opens up a wide variety of opportunities.  Your success depends on recognizing when to make your next move.  Join AAF-Dayton for a lively panel discussion featuring three homegrown design heros who started with a design degree and them embarked on a journey to places they would have never dreamed.

Our panelists will share their career path story and show you the importance of setting goals while realizing those goals need to remain fluid and flexible.  What they've learned along the way can help you guide your own career path.  Join us for an evening of networking, appetizers and refreshments!

This event is only open to students, however sponsorship levels are listed below and allow a certain number of professionals to attend.

Timing for the evening is:

  • 5:00-6:00 - Registration, Networking, and Refreshments

  • 6:00-7:30 - Panelist presentations and panel discussion

  • 7:30-8:30 - Q&A and one on one time with panelists

Our panelists include:

Ken Bucklew, Spencer, Indiana
Ken is an award-winning natural heritage fine artist who began his career as an illustrator in an ad agency.  Ken specializes in traditional landscape oil paintings and has his work in many private, corporate and museum collections including Bristol-Myers/Squibb, Rose Hulman Institute, and the Indiana State Museum.  Ken's studio and gallery are located in Spencer, Indiana, across from McCormick Creek State Park.
Theo Stephan, Los Olivos, California
Theo is a graphic designer and the founder and former owner of Real Art.  She sold the business in 2001 in order to devote herself full time to the development of Global Gardens, an Extra Virgin Olive Oil production company and food club.  Theo is also a published author and has been featured on CNBC and Home & Family, Better Homes and Gardens, and the Los Angeles Times.
Adam Vicarel, Denver, Colorado
Adam Vicaral is the Owner/Art Director of Vicarel Studios, a boutique brand and design studio specializing in branding, content creation and lettering.  Adam started Vicarel Studios in 2014 when he realized that he cares far more about his quality of life than he cares about doing what's expected.  Adam has had the opportunity to create for clients such as New Belgium Brewing, Sharpie, Verizon, and Syfy.
