AAF Name ChangesAt the 2007 conference in Louisville, Ky., AAF Chairman Murray Gaylord, AAF President and CEO Wally Snyder and AAF Executive Vice President of Club Services Joanne Schecter spoke to club leaders regarding the AAF brand, suggesting that they consider changing their club names to better identify with the AAF national brand. We are very pleased to report that the list of clubs that have officially changed their names has grown and continues to grow. AAF – Cedar Rapids – Iowa City is recognizing its 40th year as a club and currently has about 240 members. In January 2008, the local chapter was fortunate to have AAF President and CEO Wally Snyder help celebrate their four decades as a club and help announce the club name change. AAF – Cedar Rapids – Iowa City took advantage of Wally Snyder's visit by having a breakfast with past presidents of the local club. These past presidents enjoyed the opportunity to visit with Wally and to hear his thoughts on the future of advertising. Wally was also interviewed by the local newspaper, a local radio station, television station and business publication.
In those interviews, Wally talked about the local club name change, importance of advertising in a slow economy, advertising ethics and how advertising should treat people fairly. Finally, Wally was the featured speaker for the Education Day luncheon, which featured 82 students and an additional 50 chapter members. Wally talked about the importance of continuing to get young adults into the advertising field. "Spending a day with Wally Snyder helped us realize the important work the AAF does. It is an honor to be associated with such an important and powerful national organization," said Jeff Wolff, President, AAF - Cedar Rapids - Iowa City.

Mosaic Career Fairs
This year, almost 500 students and 80 recruiting companies attended one or more of the Mosaic Career Fairs, a program that gives some of the ad industry's top companies the opportunity to recruit talent from AAF's 230 college chapters. Each day-long fair includes activities such as professional development seminars, skills development workshops, panel discussions with top industry executives and one-on-one résumé reviews and portfolio critiques. This year's sponsors were Leo Burnett USA, the Walt Disney Company and USA TODAY. Mosaic Vendor Fair
Almost 250 participants representing sponsors, panelists, exhibitors, vendors and agencies attended the second annual Mosaic Vendor Fair held on April 3, 2008, at the New York Athletic Club. The Mosaic Vendor Fair attracts diverse vendors whose goods and services meet the needs of advertisers, marketing, media and communication companies and their clients. At this year's event, preidentified diverse vendors were matched with participating agencies in 15-minute matchmaking sessions where vendors had the opportunity to present their capabilities in a private setting. The event also included workshops for both vendors and agencies on doing business with one another, a networking reception and vendor trade fair. |
The AAF will again join District Two to present the Diversity Achievement and Mosaic Awards & Forum to recognize successful multicultural marketing and diversity efforts in the ad industry. The awards will be held on September 24, 2008, at the New York Athletic Club. Entries will be judged at AAF headquarters in seven categories: Workforce Diversity, Employee Diversity Program, Multiethnic Ad Campaign, Multiethnic Media Usage, Multiethnic Interactive Media, Multiethnic Supplier Partners and Student Diversity Program. Winners of each category will be presented with their award at the event in September, where they will also be given the opportunity to join fellow attendees in discussing current issues regarding diversity and multiculturalism within the industry.
Entries are due to AAF headquarters on June 17, 2008, and sponsorships are due on August 15, 2008. For more information on the 2008 Mosaic Awards & Forum, please contact Tricia Ward at tward@aaf.org. For questions about the Diversity Achievement Awards, please contact Pat Martin at (212) 644-0790.
